Premium Cataract Surgery Q&A

What is premium cataract surgery?

Premium cataract surgery treats cataracts (cloudiness in the eyes’ natural lenses).

Cataracts are more common the older you get. However, if you’ve undergone eye surgery or suffered an eye injury, you can be susceptible to cataracts at an earlier age.

Cataract surgery removes the clouded lens, replacing it with an artificial lens that improves your vision.

Atlantic Eye Consultants offers premium cataract surgery to adults. The ophthalmology team uses advanced replacement lenses, including the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® and the PanOptix® Toric trifocal lens implants, to optimize your vision for many years.

When should I consider premium cataract surgery?

Schedule an evaluation at Atlantic Eye Consultants if you experience poor vision or partial vision loss because of cataracts.

In the initial stages of a cataract, you might notice that your vision is blurry and the objects you see are less colorful. As cataracts get worse, you can have difficulty reading or doing other day-to-day activities.

Without treatment, cataracts can completely cloud over, leading to vision loss. The ophthalmology team provides premium cataract surgery to preserve your eyesight and improve your visual clarity before vision loss occurs.

In the past, standard lenses only allowed patients to see one distance. Now, premium lenses allow ophthalmologists to correct the cataract issue and treat vision problems such as astigmatism, myopia, and farsightedness. The health of your eye and any other vision issues will help determain which lens is best for you. Dr. Darlington will work with you to understand your eye health, priorities for near and distance vision and your preference to minimize or eliminate dependence on glasses. Together we will select the lens that fits your desires.

What happens during premium cataract surgery?

During your cataract surgery, the Atlantic Eye Consultants team provides a mild sedative to keep you comfortable and relaxed. They make an incision in your eye and remove the clouded lens.

Your surgeon replaces your natural lens with a premium intraocular lens (IOL). The new lens provides clearer vision and can correct various vision issues, including presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) and myopia (nearsightedness). The team determines which IOL you need based on your eye health and vision problems.

You’ll need someone to drive you home after cataract surgery. Your vision may initially be blurry but starts to clear within 48 hours. It can take several weeks to see the surgery’s final results.

The team prescribes medicated eye drops to prevent inflammation and infection. During a follow-up visit, they monitor your recovery progress and let you know when it’s safe to return to work and other activities.
